This French table would have been used in a bakery or butcher shop.  I believe it was used in a butcher shop because of the stains on the marble and well along the border to catch the juices. 

Provenance: The Estate John B. McLemore, known as "The Clockmaker of Alabama"

Both the marble and base are very heavy.
